Hello, I am a Stanford Physics PhD student and Teaching Affiliate. I am offering private tutoring in physics and math for students ranging from middle school through advanced undergraduate coursework. My tutoring style focuses on helping students build a deep, lasting understanding of the material rather than relying on memorized formulas or procedures. This makes problem-solving feel more natural, reduces frustration, and helps students develop the confidence and independence needed to perform well in their classes. I have experience tutoring a wide range of students, from middle-school math and science to college-level physics. I am especially well suited for students who want rigorous, patient, and individualized instruction from someone with both advanced subject expertise and classroom teaching experience. Please feel free to contact me at ams01@stanford.edu or 540-718-9286 if you would like to learn more or see my resume. Alec
Physics and Math Tutoring from Stanford Instructor
Many high schoolers don't begin writing their college essays until the Fall of senior year. This is a mistake. ✏️ Drafting and polishing a truly excellent Personal Statement/main essay can take months (anywhere from 2-10 drafts), and senior Fall is already enormously busy: APs, SATs, capstone projects, etc. With all that on their plates already, it can be hard to do anything but an "ok" job on essays. But your kid can't afford to do just an ok job. In a sea of 4.0 GPA students with 1500+ SAT scores, essays very often make or break an application. 🗓️ The best time to start those essays is NOW, in the early summer, so that your kid can give this high-priority app component the energy it deserves. If your rising Senior isn't sure where to begin (or has a draft that they'd like to take from "good" to "WOW"), that's where I come in. I’m a writing tutor with 15+ years of experience teaching writing. I've shepherded multiple students towards stellar college essays. Along the way, I help the student explore their unique life perspective and writing voice. Believe it or not, the application process can be an occasion for exciting self-discovery, not just stress. 🍎 I hold a PhD in English from Stanford, where I taught PWR (the school’s writing- and research-intensive course), TAed multiple literature courses, and won a university-wide teaching prize. I excel in helping writers of all experience levels hone their craft and boost their grades. Whether you need help with just one essay or prefer ongoing support, we can find a teaching or editing structure that works best for you. I conduct sessions over Zoom or in person, depending on your location and preferences. My rate is $120/hour. Please message me with any questions or to book your free, no-commitment discovery call. This is where I’ll learn more about your needs and answer any questions you might have.

Hi! I'm looking for an experienced MCAT tutor because I am aiming to take the MCAT on July 31. A bit about my situation: • Currently enrolled in Organic Chemistry (Tues/Thurs afternoons), so there's some active science coursework happening in parallel • Have been doing Princeton Review online but it's too passive/non-interactive for my learning style. I need someone engaged and responsive • Located in Palo Alto, CA and looking for a tutor that can meet me on Stanford campus for sessions • Available Mon, Wed, Fri mornings and weekends What I'm looking for: • Someone who scored 515+ on the MCAT • Experience helping students with content gaps (it's been a few years since most pre-reqs) • Able to meet 2–3x per week, ~2 hours per session • Strong at building personalized study plans, not just reviewing content • Comfortable integrating AAMC official materials into sessions I am a motivated student on a tight timeline and I am looking to start immediately. Please share your tutoring experience, availability, and hourly rate. Thank you! If interested, please message me at (904) 497-6627.

Itinerary (Flexible & Negotiable) Departure: Tuesday morning, June 23rd. Leaving from the Stanford/Palo Alto area heading to Los Angeles (we can take I-5 for speed or US-101 for ocean views). LA Stay (6/24 - 6/26): I will be attending a conference in Northridge during the day. You can take this time to freely explore LA (Hollywood, Universal Studios, museums, etc.). Extended Trip (6/27 onwards): After the conference, depending on everyone's interest, we can stay in LA a bit longer, or drive to San Diego or Las Vegas for a few days. Return: Drive back to the Bay Area together. The exact return date is flexible and can be discussed later, but we will head back no later than July 2nd. Exclusive Cheap Housing Perk (in LA) For the dates 6/23 - 6/27, as a conference attendee, I can book a fully furnished apartment on the CSUN campus (2 bedrooms, 1 living room, kitchen, private bathroom, 4 beds total). The entire place is only $140/night! This is an unbeatable steal in LA. We can just split the cost equally. For subsequent stays in SD or Vegas, we can discuss and book together later. 🚗 Vehicle & Expense Splitting (Transparent & Budget-Friendly) Vehicle: Toyota Camry Hybrid. Great condition, clean, comfortable, and very fuel-efficient, which will save us a lot on gas! Daily Expenses: All gas, tolls, parking, and shared accommodation costs along the way will be split equally among us. Mileage & Insurance: To cover vehicle wear and tear, maintenance, and insurance for the long drive, there will be a fixed flat rate of $0.10/mile (I will cover the base costs, so the mileage fee is just 10 cents per mile). This total amount will be split among everyone in the car. Looking for Teammates Leaving from Stanford/South Bay. Looking for 1-3 easygoing, communicative companions (non-smokers). It would be great if you can take turns driving, but no worries if you don't drive! As long as we can chat, kill time, and have fun on the road, that's totally fine. Luggage Note: The Camry is spacious, but trunk space is limited for a road trip. Please pack light (please let me know your luggage size when you text me). Contact Info Phone: 650-468-1820 (Please text me first with a brief self-introduction) Note: This post is valid until May 12th.
